JoM History | Introduction
Welcome to our History section of the Jewish Online Museum. One of five sections or 'galleries' in the Jewish Online Museum, in the History section you will currently find two (online) exhibitions, a number of historical portraits or biographies, and some articles and images that explore early Jewish life in New Zealand. Our historical collection is growing as a photographic archive of objects and artefacts that have histories of their own, or in some way evoke the values and experiences of their owners.
For the JoM, history begins from the first days of European settlement In New Zealand, with the arrival of Samuel Joel Polack in 1830.
