Eduth | Soundscape Ruth Greenaway
The Eduth Soundscape was created for the JoM by the oral historian Ruth Greenaway. Ruth has interviewed a number of Holocaust survivors and their families in her work, and was moved to create this compelling testament to the human tragedy of the Holocaust for our visiting listeners.
The Eduth Soundscape is a thematic representation of the oral history interviews undertaken over different decades by Ruth Greenaway. The soundscape draws together Jewish people's experience of emigration, their adaption to a new culture and creating a new life in New Zealand. The intention of this audio work is to take the listener on a poetic journey through story telling, accompanied by music that evokes poignant imagery through the use of words, silence, alliteration and the juxtaposition of words and sounds.
